The COAR Zine

Inspired by Queering the Map, ‘Colouring the Map’ is an autonomous zine that sought to normalise the multifaceted nature of the BIPOC experience on the stolen lands of the Australian National University (ANU). When reflecting on our journeys at this university, we realised that our experiences were a coalition of positive and negative events. ‘Colouring the Map’ was therefore divided into two sections; moments of joy and moments of alienation. We knew these moments were only the tip of the iceberg when it came to the depths that our stories hold. Yet, we hoped this zine would be a place for BIPOC people to find solace in shared experiences. This zine was written, edited, and created by BIPOC people, and began in 2021 when COAR originally formed as a club at the ANU. A copy of the zine can be purchased through the POP Canberra app.

The COAR Podcast

No More Wahala, Inshallah was the brainchild of COAR members Kiwi-born Iraqi Australian, Ayah Sahib, and Nigerian American Australian, Eyitoritse Mojuetan.

In this podcast, they laughed, cried, and ranted about the things that make life as a POC that little bit harder; waking up, praying that there will be no trouble today. Take a listen now to all eight episodes on any platform of your choosing.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land this Collective was nurtured on – the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. We pay respects to Elders, past and present. We recognise that this land was stolen, and sovereignty was never ceded.

As COAR was founded to fight against white supremacy and racism, we want to recognise and celebrate the long history of First Nations activism. The work done by our Indigenous activist leaders has paved the way for our own activism as a Collective.
